Ages 3–5 years · Full day & part-time

Where curiosity becomes capability.

ME Montessori’s Preschool programme prepares children for school — not by drilling them, but by building the independence, focus, and love of learning that will carry them through everything that follows.

The Preschool years done properly

Three to five is the age of consolidation. Children who arrive at ME Montessori’s Preschool bring their emerging independence and begin to direct it with real precision — choosing complex work, sustaining focus, and tackling challenges they have set for themselves.

Our Preschool environment is prepared for exactly this stage. The materials are richer, the work cycles are longer, and the expectations are higher — because children at this age are ready for them. We do not simplify the world for preschoolers. We make it accessible, and then we step back and let them explore it.

By the time our Preschool children graduate, they are readers, writers, mathematicians, scientists, and citizens. They are also, without exception, ready for whatever school comes next.

Language, Literacy & Early Writing

Reading readiness in Montessori does not begin with books. It begins with the hand — with the precision of grip, the control of line, the satisfaction of mark-making. By the time a child in our Preschool picks up a pencil with intention, their hand is already ready.

Sandpaper letters & the moveable alphabet

Children trace letter forms before they write them, feeling the shape of sounds with their fingertips. The moveable alphabet allows children to compose words and sentences — capturing language on paper — before the physical act of writing is fully fluent.

Rich conversation, every day

Vocabulary is built through genuine experience: cooking, science experiments, outdoor exploration, and the shared life of the classroom. At ME Montessori, language is not a subject. It is the medium through which everything else happens.

Science, Discovery & the World

Preschool children ask “why” more than any other question. At ME Montessori, we answer it — with real experiments, real materials, and real outcomes that children can observe, touch, and talk about.

Hands-on science

Volcano reactions, growing experiments, colour mixing, water play with measurement — these are not demonstrations. Children predict, test, observe, and conclude. The scientific habit of mind is practised long before the vocabulary of science arrives.

Cultural subjects & the wider world

Geography, history, biology, and the arts are introduced through Montessori cultural materials and real-world exploration. A preschooler at ME knows the continents, can name living and non-living things, and has a growing sense of their place in an extraordinary world.

Expressive Arts & Creative Confidence

Creative confidence at this age is not about talent. It is about the relationship between a child and the act of making — the willingness to start, experiment, and share. At ME Montessori, art is a daily practice, not a Friday afternoon activity.

Process over product

Children choose their medium, set their own intentions, and see their work through. Whether it is painting, collage, sculpture, or mixed media — the process of making is the point. The finished piece is evidence of the thinking behind it.

Collaborative art

Group art projects build the social skills that reading and maths cannot: negotiating ideas, sharing materials, celebrating someone else’s contribution. These experiences are as important as any Montessori material on the shelf.

Practical Life & Sensory Intelligence

Practical Life at preschool level is no longer just pouring and folding. It is food preparation, care of the environment, gardening, and the complex choreography of maintaining a shared space with other people. These are the foundations of responsibility.

Little Chefs & cooking

Our weekly cooking sessions give children real ingredients, real tools, and real outcomes. Measuring, pouring, mixing, and tasting — cooking integrates maths, science, language, and self-care in a single, deeply satisfying activity.

Sensory exploration

Purposeful sensory play with natural materials, loose parts, and Montessori sensorial materials continues through the preschool years — providing the tactile input that developing brains genuinely need, and laying the groundwork for scientific observation and classification.

What “school ready” actually means

School readiness is not knowing the alphabet. It is knowing how to sit with a difficulty, try a different approach, and keep going. These are the habits our Preschool builds — every single day.

📚 Literacy readiness

Phonological awareness, letter recognition, pencil grip, early writing, and a genuine love of books and stories.

🧮 Mathematical thinking

Quantity, number bonds, pattern, measurement, and the beginnings of place value — all through Montessori maths materials.

🤝 Social confidence

The ability to work alongside others, manage conflict, wait, listen, and contribute. Built over years, not weeks.

🌟 Independent thinking

Children who choose their own work, sustain focus, and complete tasks without prompting are ready for any classroom.

🌿 Curiosity & enquiry

A genuine interest in the world — in science, nature, people, stories, and ideas — that no curriculum can manufacture.

🎓 Graduation

Our annual ceremony marks what our leavers have built. Not just skills — a relationship with learning that will last.

Every child who leaves us is genuinely ready.

Our Preschool graduates go on to local primary schools confident, independent, and curious. Their teachers notice. Their parents notice. And the children themselves know it — because they have been building toward this moment for years, not cramming for it in the final weeks.

This is what a Montessori Preschool education looks like when it is done properly. Not a programme. Not a product. A childhood, given space to become something extraordinary.
